Rosin Data Sheet

From fresh flower to rosin, this guide outlines each step in rosin production.

1. Drying Process

  • Purpose: Remove moisture for curing.

  • Duration: 7-14 days.

  • Ideal Temperature: 18-22°C (64-72°F).

  • Ideal Humidity: 55-60% RH.

  • Completion Indicator: Stems snap; buds dry but not brittle.

  • Air Circulation: Gentle, avoid direct fans.

  • Common Issues: Overdrying loses terpenes; too much moisture risks mold.

2. Curing Process

  • Purpose: Enhance terpenes and quality.

  • Duration: 2-4 weeks (up to 8 for max retention).

  • Ideal Temperature & Humidity: 15-20°C (59-68°F), 58-62% RH.

  • Storage: Airtight glass jars; burp daily for two weeks.

  • Pressing Readiness: Aim for 62% RH.

  • Terpene Impact: Improves flavor and aroma.

3. Pre-Press Preparation

  • Purpose: Consistent density and yield.

  • Tool: Pre-press mold (optional).

  • Load per Press: 5-10 grams.

  • Optimal RH: 55-62%.

  • Micron Bags: 90-120 microns for clean rosin.

4. Pressing Parameters

  • Temperature Range: 70-120°C.

  • Low Temp (70-85°C): Best for terpene retention.

  • Medium Temp (85-105°C): Balance flavor and yield.

  • High Temp (105-120°C): Max yield, reduced terpenes.

  • Pressure Application: Gradual to prevent blowouts.

  • Yield Impact: Higher temps produce darker rosin with more yield.

5. Pressing Dry Sift Hashish

  • Material Type: Dry sift hash (kief).

  • Temperature: 70-85°C for terpene preservation.

  • Press Time: 60-120 seconds.

  • Pressure Application: Gradual to avoid blowouts.

  • Micron Bags: 25-37 microns for fine filtration.

6. Expected Yields

  • Top-Shelf Flower: 20-30%.

  • Mid-Quality Flower: 12-18%.

  • Low-Quality Flower: 8-12%.

  • Very Low Quality Flower: 3-8%.

  • Strain Dependence: Yields vary with trichome density.

7. Live Rosin Process

  • Material Type: Fresh frozen flower.

  • Extraction Method: Ice water hash; freeze dry for best quality.

  • Press Temperature: 70-85°C to preserve terpenes.

  • Optimal RH for Hash: 58-62% to prevent brittleness.

8. Storage of Rosin

  • Purpose: Maintain potency, flavor, and texture.

  • Safe Containers: Airtight glass jars (glass is chemically inert).

  • Avoid:

  • Silicone and Parchment: Terpenes degrade these materials.

  • Plastic: Degrades with terpene exposure.

  • Storage Conditions: Cool, dark place below 20°C.

  • Freezing Option: Store in glass; thaw slowly.

Quick Facts & In-Depth Insights

  • Live Rosin: Made from fresh frozen flower, retaining "live" flavor.

  • Terpenes & THC: High-THC strains often contain fewer terpenes.

  • Micron Bags: 90-120 microns for flower; 25-37 microns for hashish.

  • Heat & Terpenes: Above 70°C, terpene loss occurs; lower temps retain flavor. - After processing, the terpenes will naturally evaporate at 21°C and above during storage.

  • Yield vs. Quality: Lower temp = better quality, lower yield.

  • Storage Tip: Freeze long-term in glass; thaw slowly to preserve texture.
