As the Black Market prices and products keeps being steep I thought I might as well post one of my favourite methods to acquire clean "hash" very quickly and cheap.
So start, I want to explain a bit. This is primarily targeting those countries experiencing severely poor products lately - Scandinavia, particularly.
I know that "just smoke weed" isn't the same as rolling up a hash spliff. But there are methods to be able to make the weed spliff contain a much higher percentage of weed and making it more akin to the hashish spliffs;
Tests show that the "dry" and "mousse" are usually around 23 - 28% THC.
New school strains (weed) are usually starting around 18 - 22% THC. And of course, flowers will usually be fresher than hashish, resulting in a better terpene and flavonoid percentage.
So we will work with those numbers.
Potency: realistic bands you can expect at home are pressed flower 18–22% THC. Street hash often sits at 23–28% THC.
Value is not the only point: even when THC is similar, cleanliness wins. You control input, hygiene, and handling. No mystery adulterants, no solvent residue.
Economy is a bonus: if your flower price per gram and THC are reasonable, mg of THC per krone can beat typical street hash.
Instead of making hashish from the flower which usually yield SUPERB results compared to the hashish that can be bought, there is a lot of potential waste and work for a casual consumer.
This guide is focused on the average consumer and tools that can be bought for very cheap. The guide is not a mere focus on quality, but is showing how to consume in a safe matter - and perhaps with a superior product than you can currently purchase.
Looking at the numbers, you may end up with the same specifications as hashish though a more hard/old school feeling product. If you can look past that, you essentially have a clean and on-par, if not superior product.
Let's delve into it:
Input humidity
Use cannabis that feels dry, not spongy - but it is important that it is sticky to make it more "hashy" and not just a hard block.
If you use humidity packs, keep jars around 58–62% RH before pressing.
Tools
Coffee/spice grinder or small blender, pollen press, gentle heat source (stove on low), heat-resistant gloves.
Optional: a small amount of rosin or similar. Kief from the grinder definitely works too.
Method (home, simple)
Blend/mill the cannabis (remember to remove stalks and leaves) to a fine, even powder. It is important that it is a powder and not grinded weed to give it that nice hash look.
Load the pollen press. Do not overfill.
Warm the press gently. You want resin to bind, not cook. If you are using high-end weed, you might need a very very low amount of heat - perhaps you can entirely avoid it. You do end up with something that looks more like a "mousse" though - but hard in consistency.
Tighten to firm compression. Too much force can squeeze oils out if you have mixed it with rosin or if you are using too high temperature (this is essentially how rosin pressing works).
Cool under compression, then release.
Optional: mix in a small amount of rosin first, press gently, then rest 24–48 h so it evens out.
Your result (with only weed, no rosin) should end up very dark and hard like hash back in the day:

You can avoid the hard consistency by pressing at a lower force or heat.
Price breakdown:
Type | THC | Price | mg/kr |
Weed (pressed at home) | |||
Budget flower example | 15% | 50 DKK | 3.00 |
Mid flower example | 20% | 70 DKK | 2.86 |
Strong flower example | 25% | 90 DKK | 2.78 |
Hash (no mousse) | |||
Budget hash example | 20% | 70 DKK | 2.86 |
Mid hash example | 25% | 100 DKK | 2.50 |
Strong hash example | 30% | 140 DKK | 2.14 |
- Budget flower at 50 DKK/g often beats mid hash on mg/kr.
- If your flower is pricier or weaker, the gap narrows.
- Cleanliness still favors home-pressed even when mg/kr is similar.
I have chosen high hash prices due to the location (Scandinavia) and also to not include hash that is suspicious. Currently, a proper "drysift" is quite expensive.
None the less, this is purely THC calculations and none of the other goods that follows from fresh flower.
Heads up: If the pressed weed is of a low quality, there is a risk of the "hash" pieces will fall from the joint when smoking it.
This can of course be navigated.
